Dr. Sergio L. Vieira is an influential poultry researcher. Having started his career working in the poultry industry, he has the ability to quickly recognize research topics of practical importance and has effectively transitioned the resulting knowledge into practice. Dr. Vieira has a record of meticulous experimental rigor. For his pioneering work on the emerging problem of breast muscle myopathies, and his systematic investigation into micro-mineral requirements of broiler breeders, he is prominent among his contemporaries. Dr. Vieira has trained 50 graduate and post-graduate highly qualified personnel. He has published prolifically, including 115 peer-reviewed research papers (47 over the 10 years prior to this nomination), 2 books, and 10 book chapters. Having had invitations to present his work in 52 countries, his international impact is undeniable.
