Martin J. Zuidhof

Professor, Precision Feeding & Poultry Systems Modeling, University of Alberta
President, Poultry Science Association
Chief Scientific Officer, PrecisionZX, Inc.

Dr. Martin Zuidhof is a Professor of Precision Feeding and Poultry Systems Modeling at the University of Alberta. He is committed to relevance and excellence in poultry research, extension, and training the next generation of industry leaders. His team developed a smart precision feeding system that utilizes sensor technology to feed individual birds the right amount of the right feed at the right time. The system keeps roosters at an ideal body weight, thus eliminating the practice of spiking of commercial broiler breeders. The precision feeding system doubles as one of the best data acquisition tools in the world for free-run poultry research. His goal is to revolutionize the way the world feeds and studies broiler breeders.
Since 1993, Dr. Zuidhof has been active in The Poultry Research Centre, a unique collaboration between government, academia, and the poultry industry. He was instrumental in its transition into the Poultry Innovation Partnership (PIP). He is now President of the Poultry Science Association, whose mission is to advance discovery, dissemination and application of poultry science.
Dr. Zuidhof has been studying broiler breeders since 1991, holds 6 patents, and has published over 100 peer reviewed manuscripts. His team’s most famous paper on genetic progress in broilers is ranked in the top 20 cited Poultry Science papers. It contains an image you are likely to see at least once at almost every poultry meeting.
